Spoon carving

As I am writing a project for an upcomming exam, I was getting desperate to get to do something other than writeing. So I decided to do a bit of carving.
The result is this spoon.

It is based loosely on a type og medieval spoon. Charaterised by a wide cirkular bowl and a quite short handle.
This one is carved from birch wood (Betula pendula).

The inspiration came from this 15th century spoon... and the spoon to the right in this picture (From Nationalmuseet in Copenhagen)

The trick to eating with a spoon like this is to drink from the edge of the bowl rather than putting the whole thing in your mouth.

  1. That's beautiful. I'd love to learn carving so I can do spoons and I'd love to carve my own ear plugs out of wood/stone.

  2. There are lot's of carveing recourses on the internet. Just google "Spoon carveing" and you will surely find something.

But get some good quality tools for the job. That will help you get the right result.
For spooncarveind i use a Granfors carpenters axe, a short (50mm) carveing knife, a Svante Djärv hook knife and a Pheil 25mm bent couge.
You can get it all here:

... And a visit to the "bogders ask & anwser forum" is a good idea as well:

  3. Hei Louise!
Paiene du viser i noen innlegg under her var helt utrolige!
