I had this painting I wanted to go from:
the life of St. Ulrich, 1450-1455

I used this because I liked the buttons on the collar and possibly also the ones near the wrists (there must have been some kind of closing there, because of the opening beeing so tight around his wrists). And I also wanted a jacket without the fur. Fur is very nice, but it was maybe a bit too overkill to start with and also for a normal jacket. But I must try with fur next time!
Here is what I came up with:

The pleats are hold together very nicely with the inside belt. So I can only recommend that. What I'm missing still is to Iron the pleats and also attach a fastener or two in the belt.

I'll make another post of me in it, hence the PART I in the headline.

Looking forward to seeing it on! It looks promising so far :)
I see why you say you found the right fabric for the gown--it *does* look appropriate. I look forward to seeing pictures of you wearing it, triumphantly.
I tried one of these based on the MTA and it was a disaster, yours already looks well ahead of my attempt, I look forward to seeing the final version!
